Key Stage 3

This Key Stage includes Years 7, 8 and 9

Key Stage 3 Curriculum

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum to meet the needs of 11-14 year olds at Key Stage 3.  Pupils build on their learning from Primary School and acquire knowledge, skills and experience through traditional academic subjects, together with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, clubs, trips and visits.

Over three years pupils will study:

English
Mathematics
Science
Design & Technology
Geography
History
ICT
Modern Foreign Languages
Music
Art & Design
Drama
Physical Education
Religious Education
Personal Development

Pupils are encouraged to become independent enquirers, creative thinkers and reflective learners.  Pupils will work independently, in groups and in whole class situations.  Pupils will gain the confidence to be able to make effective participation and contribution in different learning situations.  Homework extends learning and consolidates the work taking place in lessons.

Key Stage 3 Homework Timetable

In Y7-9 homework will be set each week in the following subjects:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • French

In Y7-9 homework will be set each fortnight in the following subjects:

  • Geography
  • History
  • RE

This homework should take the students:-

  • Approximately 30 minutes per subject in Year 7
  • Approximately 30 minutes per subject in Year 8
  • Approximately 40 minutes per subject in Year 9

We do not specify a particular day for a particular subject as we believe this allows greater flexibility within the teaching of a topic to set homework on the day when it is most appropriate for what has been learnt.

Students will be given a reasonable amount of time (typically a week) to complete any homework task set.
