Students are encouraged to develop not only academically but also personally, socially, creatively and in sports. We offer a wide range of activities and opportunities beyond the formal curriculum through our enrichment programme.
Volunteering: Students are actively encouraged to participate in the volunteering programme. Volunteering activities include being subject mentors for younger students, supporting younger students with their reading, supporting the Academy at open evenings and promotional events, helping with sports fixtures and running teams, supporting school productions or volunteering to help in the library and with primary school transition events.
Student Council: There is an active Sixth Form Student Council and all students are welcome to attend. Social events, such as Movie Night, end of year trip and the Year 13 Ball are all organised by the students. In particular we have an established and very productive Charity Council who organise a number of events throughout the year including a Macmillan Coffee Morning and Children in Need.
Leadership Opportunities: We encourage all students to take on roles of responsibility and leadership including standing for the School Council, public speaking and presenting assemblies. We support the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Sports Leadership Award and for some students the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
Inspiration for the Future: Throughout the two years we have a number of inspirational speakers, including representatives from local universities and businesses, who will help students think about their next steps.
Educational visits: There are also a wide range of educational trips such as to London, Hunstanton and Cern.
Accessing Higher Education – For our most able Sixth Form students we encourage them to take part in outreach opportunities provided by local universities, Oxford and Cambridge. Many of these are career/subject specific and our students will be supported and guided as individuals to make sure they access lectures, courses, trips and summer schools which are specifically relevant to them.
