National Citizen Service

An opportunity not to be missed.

NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that helps 16 & 17 year olds build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and meeting new friends.

By taking part in NCS Year 11, 12 and 13 students (under 18 yrs old) can develop the tools and belief to unlock their potential and make a positive impact in their communities.

NCS gives hundreds of young people across Leicester and Leicestershire the chance to make new friends, developing their confidence, independence and sense of responsibility, to support their transition into adulthood.

  • It’s only 10 days in Spring or Autumn and will boost their CV like nothing else!
  • They get a Certificate signed by the Prime Minister when they complete the programme.
  • It takes place during school holiday time and a few weekends so it won’t impact on their studies.
  • It’s a great opportunity to build their confidence, widen their horizons, try new activities and have a really productive half term or Summer holiday.
  • NCS is recognised by UCAS and employers so if your teenager is thinking of going to Uni or applying for a job or an Apprenticeship soon doing NCS will really help them stand out.

National Citizen Service (NCS) consists of three parts:

1- Outdoor Activity Adventure Residential:

During this residential, participants will get the chance to try out a whole range of exciting activities such as; climbing, archery, high ropes, raft building and many more. The purpose of this residential is to challenge participants and to develop their confidence, teamwork and leadership skills.

2- Skills Development:

Participants will develop skills for life and work by taking part in Dragons Den style business challenges, master classes covering budgeting, first aid and fundraising and meeting local charity and community leaders. For the summer programme all participants will get the opportunity to stay in the halls of residence at a local university.

3- Social Action Project:

The participants, in their teams then put all their new confidence and skills into action by planning and delivering a social action project of their choice within the local community.  This could involve campaigning, fundraising, revamping spaces or raising awareness for a local charity or community organisation.  This gives the participants a chance to make a difference and give something back to the community.

Graduation Ceremony:

At the end of the programme participants receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister at the graduation ceremony to celebrate their efforts and commitment to the programme.  This backs up the wealth of fantastic experiences they can write about on their CV, Personal Statement and talk about at interviews for jobs.  NCS is recognised by UCAS and employers.
