Our Curriculum

Our curriculum has at its heart the desire to support the ambitions of all our students. It develops the skills and knowledge which will allow them to become confident lifelong learners and delivers outcomes which will enable them to make choices about their future.

Our curriculum is:

  • broad and balanced
  • rigorous – setting challenge for all and embodying aspiration
  • coherent – offering progression at each stage
  • appropriate – for the age of the students studying it
  • relevant – because it delivers outcomes and experiences which are important to the students and parents in our community.

All students spend one lesson each week studying our Personal Development programme which promotes all aspects of personal and social development; health and wellbeing; and citizenship. Assemblies and registration time activities support this development of our students as independent, tolerant, global citizens.

Key Stage 3

We provide a Key Stage 3 curriculum which builds upon the progress made in Primary School. We maintain an emphasis upon English and maths, but also take the opportunity to broaden learning experiences through a range of exciting subjects.  All students in Years 7 – 9 study English, maths, science, geography, history, French, religious education, art, drama, music, design technology, food and physical education.

In each of these subjects we place an emphasis upon the mastery of core skills and knowledge as we see Key Stage 3 as fundamental in establishing the foundations which will make our students both GCSE ready and eventually successful lifelong learners.

Key Stage 4

All students are individually supported in making the most appropriate choice of subjects for Years 10 and 11, receiving effective guidance regarding the route which will enable them to make the most progress through Key Stage 4 and beyond.  Our Key Stage 4 curriculum continues to emphasise English and maths, along with science, whilst allowing students to study other subjects which match their ambitions or support their needs.  All Key Stage 4 students participate in core physical education lessons each week.

The GCSE subjects we currently offer are: English language, English literature, mathematics, combined science, biology, chemistry, physics, history, geography, French, art, drama, music, engineering, graphics, food, business studies, media studies, physical education, BTEC health and social care is also available.
